The Backyard Series: DIY Frog Hotels

Make your garden more frog friendly in this informative and hands-on workshop

The Backyard Series returns to Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden in 2024!

DIY Frog Hotels

Presented by Trevor Morrison, ECOllaboration

Make your garden frog friendly in this informative and practical workshop. Learn about local frogs and their habitat needs, how to identify species, use citizen science tools and tricks for discouraging toads.

Trevor from ECOllaboration will share results from amphibian surveys conducted at the Botanic Garden and discuss how frog research is undertaken. He'll present photographs of local species and tips for telling them apart. You'll also learn how to use the free Frog ID app which can identify species by users recording their calls and contributing to national frog research. Participants will go on a walk to check out frog survey locations and learn about the components of a healthy habitat.

The second half of the workshop is hands-on: learning how to build your own 'frog hotel'!

This simple, relocatable design is fun to make and sure to attract frogs to your backyard.

In the ticket options, choose to either:

  • Make a frog hotel to take home, all materials supplied
  • Watch the demonstration to make one independently

If you're a parent or caregiver and would like to bring along a +1 child/young person helper, you can! Please select the $5 'child-helper' ticket in addition to your ticket. Children must be aged: 5+yrs

Registration is limited to 25 participants, so book now to secure your spot.
